Pastor’s Welcome

Grace Presbyterian Church is the oldest congregation of our denomination on the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain. Our congregation was founded in 1975, two years after our denomination, the Presbyterian Church in America, was born.

Our Church believes in the infallibility (absolute reliability) and the inerrancy (the Bible in its original manuscripts is accurate and totally free from error) of the Bible.

We firmly believe in salvation through Christ alone. Unfortunately, this has become an unpopular teaching in our day. Many people claim to be “spiritual,” determining that what they believe is the way to heaven. We often hear people say that they are saved because they are a good, or that they live by the Ten Commandments or that they have never hurt anyone. All of this is untrue. Most people cannot even name the Ten Commandments and we know that we are not  good for we often bring great harm to others, to ourselves, and dishonor and disobey our holy God.

Another objection to salvation through Christ alone is that this sounds so narrow. It is narrow. Jesus Himself said “I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes through the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).

We also believe in eternal judgment for those who reject Christ (Hebrews 9:27) and eternal blessings for those who receive Him (John 14:1-3).  Scripture also teaches that Jesus Christ will return one day to redeem His creation and as Paul says in Philippians 2: 9- 11: “Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

In all our ministries we teach what we call a world and life view. We teach the Lordship of Christ and how to live for Him at home, at work, at school or wherever we may be. We believe that the Bible is relevant to every part of life. We do not believe that society has the right to change the Bible to fit the modern framework.

Our beliefs are summarized in the five Solas of the Christian faith.

  • Sola Fide, by faith alone
  • Sola Scriptura, by Scripture alone
  • Solus Christus, through Christ alone
  • Sola Gratia, by grace alone
  • Soli Deo Gloria, glory to God alone

We invite you to worship with us at any time to learn more of the indescribable gift God has given to us in His beloved Son, Jesus Christ.

See you Sunday.
